The School Day

The length and organisation of the school day is often under review. Parents are always fully consulted about any changes that may occur.

School begins at 9.00am although staff arrive at school well before this time so that they may prepare for the school day. We ask that no child arrives in the playground before 8.50am, unless by prior arrangement with the Headteacher. Children who arrive and are on the playground before these times are unsupervised and therefore unsafe.

Afternoon school begins at 1.00pm and ends at 3.00pm.

9.00am School day begins - Registration

Because the mornings vary greatly between Yr 1 and Yr 2 a typical morning will consist of:

phonics - 20 mins

Literacy - 1 hour

Snack time - 5 mins

Numeracy - 1hour

At 10.30 the children have a 15 minute break time followed by assembly at 10.45 for approximately 15 minutes.

 12.00noon - Lunchtime

 1.00pm Afternoon school begins - Registration

Again the afternoon varies but will consist of:

Guided reading - 20 minutes

Foundation subjects such as history, geography,art etc...

The amount of time spent on these subjects can vary.

The children are also timetabled throughout the week to have:

1 hour - ICT

P.E - Times can also vary depending on topics being covered each half term.

Total teaching time hours (excluding break, registration and Collective Worship):

21 hrs 15 mins per week.
