Meet the governors.
Chris Wick – LEA Governor
I have lived in Ramsey for over ten years and I first served for four years as a Parent Governor whilst having had both my children attend the school. I wanted to know if I could contribute and at the same time learn to understand more about our children’s education. Having nothing but a great deal of admiration for both the “school and its staff “ I decided to stay on as the LEA Representative Governor to serve another term of office. It’s a very rewarding and interesting role and certainly one to be recommended. My current roles are of; SEN Link Governor - Health & Safety Link Governor - Heads Performance Management Committee.
Pastor Paul Adcock - Community Governor
(Summary to follow)
Mr Peter Reeve – Parent Governor/Chair person
I am a Parent Governor at both Ramsey Spinning and Ramsey Junior Schools. I have three children Jazmine, Teddy and Alfie and work as a Regional Organiser for Jeffrey Titford MEP (Member of the European Parliament.)
Stephanie Beale - Parent Governor
I have always lived in Ramsey and I am a former pupil of the Spinning Infants School. At the moment I am a full time mum to two boys and my eldest son started at the Spinning Infants this year. Before I had children I was a secondary school teacher and I most recently taught at the Ailwyn. I have a keen interest in, and experience of, local education and I look forward to fulfilling my role as parent governor. I am actively involved in our community as a member of Great Whyte Baptist Church.
Jackie Beagle - Parent Governor
I am a Parent Governor at Ramsey Spinning Infants. I have two daughters, the eldest started at Spinning Infants in 2007 and my youngest will join this year. I became a Parent Governor as a way of learning about the school and about our children's education and welfare, which I have enjoyed and found a rewarding role. I also enjoy being able to visit the school and see how the children learn as well as being part of a team who contributes to the schools' success.
My current roles are Link Governor for Music and Numeracy, Chair of the Strategy and Community Partnership Committee and Clerk for the Standards and Curriculum Committee.
Lynda Pollard - Teacher governor
During my years in education, I have worked in Primary and Secondary schools, in an Assessment Unit for children with learning difficulties and with my local playgroup. I have lived in Cambridgeshire since 1978 and have two grown up daughters. As Teacher Governor my responsibilities include giving feedback at staff meetings, booking training courses and leading the Curriculum Committee.
Sam Pilkington - Support Staff Governor
I have been a member of staff at Ramsey Spinning Infants for 9 years now. I have 2 sons, one of whom attends Abbey College and the other who joined the Spinning Infants Foundation class in September 2007. I am currently in my second term of office as support staff governor. My role involves feeding back to support staff at our weekly meetings. My staff role is as a TA (currently Yr 1) and also as ICT support assistant.
Margaret Mumby - Clerk to the Governors

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment
The Governing Body takes pleasure in welcoming you to Spinning Infants School. We are very proud of the school, for all it's achievements and for the ‘Outstanding’ quality of education.
What is a governor? What do governors do?
Governors are ordinary people from the community who wish to make a positive contribution to children’s education, their welfare, their safety and their chances for life long learning. The governors work together with the Headteacher and staff to create a vision and set the future direction for the school.
The Governing Body is made up of local people, parents, and school staff and represents the broad mix of the local community. All governors are subject to the usual police checks before becoming a governor. There are regular full Governing Body meetings and committee meetings each term and governors collectively make decisions on a wide range of matters. Responsibilities include setting the strategic direction of the school, helping to develop school policies and contributing to the School Improvement Plan. The Governing Body is also responsible for deciding how the budget should be spent, appointing staff, ensuring accountability and monitoring and evaluating the school’s performance.
An annually updated School Profile is available for parents and members of the community and is one way in which the governors communicate with parents about the school’s progress, its priorities and performance.
The governors value questions and feedback from parents, carers and children and invite you to contact us through the Clerk to the Governing Body, Margaret Mumby or through the Chair of Governors. A list of governors’ names is available from school and can be found in the school prospectus.
The role of the governor is both rewarding and interesting and provides people with an opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of children and young people. Governors are volunteers prepared to give their time to the school. If you feel you would like to consider being a school governor please contact the school for further information.
Thank you for reading this brief description about the work of the Governing Body.

How do governors do all this?
Governors work as a team and benefit from the services of a clerk.
The governors work closely with the Headteacher and staff.
All governors attend training and briefings by the Local Authority.
Each governor regularly visits the school and sees what happens and report on the visit to the full Governing Body.
Each governor is linked to a curriculum subject and an area of school development. S/he checks policies and reports on various observations to the Headteacher and Governing Body.
Governors talk to staff, listen to what people say and observe children working and at play.
Governors listen to and take account of what parents, carers, and families say and think. Governors reflect their local community.
Governors talk to children, listening to what they say and think about their work and the school.
Governors regularly attend full Governing Body Meetings (6 meetings a year).
Each governor serves on at least one committee (between 3 and 6 meetings a year). Each committee reports to the full Governing Body and makes recommendations for consideration.
The Governing Body has access to regular training and a wide range of advice from the Governors’ Support Services, the Local Authority, the Headteacher and other agencies.
The school is always looking for people willing to be considered for the interesting and exciting role of school governor and in the interests of safeguarding children, each governor is police checked through the Criminal Registration Bureau before becoming a serving governor of the school.
